Charlie West Set to Make AFL Debut for Collingwood in Round 16 Clash…

Collingwood has officially confirmed that Charlie West will make his AFL debut this Saturday night in the club’s Round 16 match against the West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium.

The exciting young talent was informed of his selection on Tuesday, sparking emotional celebrations within the West family. The moment, however, came with an unexpected twist, as Charlie’s father — initially believing the announcement was a joke — unintentionally spoiled the surprise shortly after hearing the news.

Despite the humorous mix-up, the family is said to be thrilled and proud as Charlie prepares to run out in the black and white for the first time.

A product of Collingwood’s development system, West has impressed with his recent form in the VFL, showing composure, work rate, and a strong football IQ — attributes that have earned him a well-deserved senior call-up.

Head coach Craig McRae praised the young player’s commitment and growth.

“Charlie’s been working incredibly hard behind the scenes, and this opportunity is a reflection of that effort,” McRae said. “He’s earned the right to play at AFL level, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the side.”

Charlie West will become the latest debutant in what has been a season marked by both injury challenges and emerging young talent at Collingwood. His debut comes at a critical point in the season, as the Magpies continue to push toward a top-four finish.

The club and its supporters will be watching closely as West takes his first steps at AFL level under the Marvel Stadium lights.
