Magpie history takes another iconic turn as the ‘Macedonian Marvel’ comes home.
In a monumental move that has electrified the AFL community, Peter Daicos, one of the greatest players to ever don the black and white, has officially signed on to return to Collingwood Football Club — this time as an Assistant Coach.
The announcement was confirmed by Collingwood Football General Manager Charlie Gardiner, who has been leading the club’s football operations since his appointment in December 2024. The signing was finalized in close coordination with the club’s leadership and ownership structure, marking a bold chapter in Collingwood’s push to cement its legacy as the AFL’s dominant force.
“Peter Daicos is more than just a Collingwood champion; he’s part of the very fabric of this club,” Gardiner said in a statement. “His knowledge, leadership, and unique football IQ will provide invaluable guidance to our players and coaching staff. It’s an exciting day for the Collingwood family.”
The Daicos Legacy Continues
Peter Daicos is synonymous with Collingwood greatness. Playing 250 games for the club between 1979 and 1993, Daicos thrilled Magpie supporters with his freakish skill, creativity, and uncanny ability to kick miraculous goals from impossible angles. He was a two-time Copeland Trophy winner and a crucial part of Collingwood’s drought-breaking 1990 Premiership.
But the Daicos name has only grown stronger with time. His sons, Josh and Nick Daicos, have become two of the AFL’s brightest stars, with Nick Daicos arguably the best player in the league today and a Brownlow Medal favorite every season.
Now, with Peter back in an official role, the Daicos Dynasty feels complete.
“It’s an honor to return to the club I love, this time in a coaching capacity,” Daicos said. “I’ve been a part of Collingwood all my life, but to now have the opportunity to help guide the next generation, alongside my sons, is truly special. We have something big building here, and I’m ready to give everything I’ve got to help us get there.”
