Nashville, Tennessee | June 21, 2025 — Legends recognize greatness. And in the heart of Nashville, greatness wears the name Eddie George.
The Tennessee Titans and the entire NFL community have officially announced that Eddie George, one of the greatest players in the franchise’s history, will be immortalized with a lifetime achievement honor and a bronze statue to be unveiled at Nissan Stadium.
🗓 Unveiling Date Confirmed
The official unveiling of Eddie George’s bronze statue is now scheduled for September 14, 2025, during the Titans’ home opener of the 2025 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens.
This historic moment will mark not only a celebration of Eddie George’s legendary football career but also his profound impact on the city of Nashville and the Titans franchise both on and off the field.
🏆 Why Eddie George?
Eddie George, the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner, carried the Titans on his back during their rise to national prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s, helping lead them to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance in 1999 (Super Bowl XXXIV). Known for his relentless running style, leadership, and durability, George played eight seasons with the franchise, amassing:
•10,009 rushing yards
•64 rushing touchdowns
•4× Pro Bowler selections
•NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (1996)
But Eddie’s legacy has extended beyond the gridiron. After his playing career, he embraced the Nashville community as an advocate, philanthropist, businessman, and now serves as head football coach at Tennessee State University, inspiring young athletes every day.
🗣 Titans Ownership Statement
Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk expressed the franchise’s honor:
“Eddie George is the heartbeat of Titans history. His contributions laid the foundation for what we have built in Tennessee. This statue isn’t just for Eddie — it’s for every fan who stood with him through every carry, every touchdown, every heartbreak, and every triumph. September 14th will be a historic day for Nashville.”
👑 Legacy Recognized by Legends
NFL legends across the league have hailed the move, calling it “long overdue.” Former Titans quarterback Steve McNair, already immortalized by fans, and Bruce Matthews, another Titans icon, will both be honored guests at the ceremony.
Even current Titans superstar Derrick Henry paid tribute:
“Without Eddie, there’s no Derrick Henry here. He paved the road for all of us. It’s an honor to play for the same team as a king like him.”
📍 Location at Nissan Stadium
The bronze statue will be placed outside Gate 27 — a special nod to the legendary No. 27 jersey Eddie wore with pride.
