The Tennessee Titans have faced significant challenges in recent seasons, marked by questionable draft decisions and the underperformance of key acquisitions. Former general managers Jon Robinson and Ran Carthon have been at the center of scrutiny for their roles in shaping the team’s roster.
Draft Decisions Under Scrutiny
Jon Robinson’s tenure included the controversial trade of star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. In return, the Titans selected Treylon Burks with the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, aiming to fill the void left by Brown. However, Burks has struggled to meet expectations, amassing only 699 receiving yards over 17 games in three seasons. Injuries have hampered his development, and the team has declined his fifth-year option, signaling uncertainty about his future with the franchise .
Ran Carthon, who succeeded Robinson, faced his own challenges. Despite efforts to revamp the roster, the Titans finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 3–14 record. Consequently, Carthon was relieved of his duties, and the team secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft .
Treylon Burks’ Status Amid Trade Rumors
Burks’ tenure with the Titans has been marred by injuries, including a recent ACL surgery that sidelined him for the 2024 season. As he continues his rehabilitation, trade rumors have surfaced, suggesting that the Titans may be looking to move on from the former first-round pick .
Head coach Brian Callahan addressed Burks’ condition during organized team activities (OTAs), stating, “Anybody coming off a significant surgery and rehab is always going to be probably off their full playing weight. The conditioning part is sort of coming along with it. I don’t see any ill effects. Trey’s just a bigger body, so I’m pretty pleased with where he’s at.”
Looking Ahead
With a new general manager at the helm and the top pick in the upcoming draft, the Titans have an opportunity to reshape their roster and address past shortcomings. The decisions made in the coming months will be crucial in determining the franchise’s direction and its ability to return to competitiveness in the NFL.
