From a Proud (but Missing Him!) Cyclone Parent ❤️🌪️

I’m so grateful and proud right now — my freshman at Iowa State seems to be doing so well. He didn’t have a lot of close friends in high school, so knowing that he’s found his people, joined in campus life, and is adjusting smoothly just warms my heart. I know that’s every parent’s dream, and I couldn’t be happier for him.

That said… I have to admit, this mama is missing her boy! It’s been over a week since I last heard his voice. My calls go straight to voicemail, my texts get no reply. I keep telling myself, “He’s busy, he’s focused, this is what we wanted,” but I’d love even a quick “Hi Mom, I’m alive!” just to know he’s doing okay.

Fellow Iowa State parents — how often do you hear from your freshmen? Is it normal for them to go quiet once they’ve settled in and built a social circle? Do you call, text, or just wait until they reach out?

I’m so proud of him for stepping out into the world, but wow, the quiet house really reminds me how much I miss him. Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences — I’d love to know how you all navigate this stage.
