In a powerful reaffirmation of its deep-rooted ties to Melbourne’s working-class heritage, the Collingwood Football Club Community Foundation has announced a remarkable $8.17 million total investment into community support programs, highlighting its enduring commitment to those doing it tough across the city.
From January 1 to June 1, 2025, the Foundation dedicated $231,000 specifically toward housing initiatives—part of a broader, decade-long mission to provide food, shelter, and essential services to Melbourne’s most vulnerable citizens. Since its launch in 2014, the Foundation has become a pillar of hope and resilience for thousands, turning the black and white stripes into a symbol of solidarity and service.
Magpie Nest Café: Feeding Bodies and Uplifting Spirits
A cornerstone of the Foundation’s community outreach is the Magpie Nest Café, a sanctuary nestled in the heart of Melbourne. So far this year, it has served over 50,000 free meals, adding to the 104,000 meals provided in 2024—an average of nearly 10,000 meals every month. These meals aren’t just sustenance; they’re a source of stability and human connection, made possible through tireless volunteers and generous public donations.
Beyond a hot meal, the café acts as a comprehensive support hub, offering access to critical services including:

•Optometry check-ups
•NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) navigation
•Centrelink guidance
•Emergency housing referrals
Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible, encouraging both corporate sponsors and everyday fans to invest in their community.
Magpie Nest Housing: Safe Shelter, Human Dignity
Housing remains one of the most pressing needs among the disadvantaged, and the Foundation has responded with the Magpie Nest Housing Program. This initiative delivers safe, secure, and affordable housing, coupled with utilities and wraparound case management to help people transition from crisis to stability.
Over the last ten years, more than 120 individuals have found a place to call home thanks to this program—including residents of Ngarra Jarranounith Place, a culturally safe healing and behaviour change initiative specifically designed for Aboriginal men at risk of using family violence. Through one-on-one case work and community engagement, this program promotes lasting personal transformation.

The Collingwood Football Club has long stood for more than just football glory. With the continued backing of the Magpie Army, loyal fans, sponsors, and volunteers, the Community Foundation has evolved into a vehicle for social justice, human dignity, and community revival.
