I tried to fight it. You all know me—I’ve always been a fighter. On the court, I’ve played through pain, through heartbreak, through losses that crushed me and victories that defined me. I’ve come back from surgeries, setbacks, and defeats with the fire to push forward. But this time… this time, my body said no. And I had to listen.
To walk away from something I’ve loved since childhood is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Tennis has given me everything—purpose, identity, a global family of fans, unforgettable memories. But it also demands everything in return. And now, I can no longer give it what it deserves.
As I make this announcement today, I want to speak directly to every single one of you who’s supported me through the highs and the lows.
You were there when I won the Olympic gold in Tokyo—one of the proudest moments of my life.
